BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team dropped its first road contest of the year on Friday night to Babson College, 3-1.
The Hawks fall to 1-2 on the early year while the Beavers earned their first win of the season and improve to 1-1. The Hawks will host Saint Michael's College in their first conference contest of the 2019-20 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.
Sophomore Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) opened the game with a goal 4:40 into the first period, putting the Hawks on the board early. Iacullo's tally helped the Hawks to hold the lead into the first intermission. Iacullo registered his first goal of the season and the 10th tally of his career.
Babson responded in the second period as Trevor Marcinick scored the equalizer 3:44 into the stanza. Christian Faggas had the assist in the Beavers' first goal of the game.
Andrew Holland gave the Beavers their first lead of the contest at 15:14 of the second period. Patrick Flynn dished the puck toward the Hawks goal where it was tipped home by Holland, who put the hosts up 3-1. Babson tacked on an empty net goal with two seconds left in regulation time.
In his second collegiate start, freshman Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) posted 30 saves en route to the loss. Aidan Murphy of the Beavers finished the contest with 32 stops. Saint Anselm and Babson ended the day even at 33 in the shots category. Senior Mike Ferraro (Northbridge, Mass.) won 11 of his 14 face-offs to lead the Hawks.
