Mee Propels Men's Lax Past #14 Molloy, 13-11

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Ryan Mee (Medway, Mass.) chipped in a game-high eight points on five goals and three assists as the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team played to a 13-11 win over No. 14 nationally-ranked Molloy College on Wednesday evening at Grappone Stadium.

The Hawks earn their first win to improve to 1-3 on the season, while Molloy drops to 3-3 for the 2014 campaign.

Saint Anselm broke out to a 3-0 lead by 6:57 of the first when Mee, junior Andy Budz (Williamstown, Mass.) and sophomore Ben Warren (Georgetown, Mass.) all dropped in tallies for the Hawks. Mee picked up assists on the goals from Budz and Warren.   

Molloy earned one back, before Budz found the net for Saint Anselm, pushing the Hawk lead to three at 4-1 with 3:58 left in the first quarter. The Lions tied it up at four-all at 7:59 of the second quarter, but not before senior Jake Mallinson (Middletown, R.I.)  and Budz put the Hawks up 6-4.

Molloy earned one back, coming within one at 6-5 and then Mee and Budz joined together for back-to-back tallies, putting Saint Anselm up three at 8-5. Tom Turner and Joe Leonard each struck for Molloy, however, putting them back within one at 8-7.  

A pair of Mee goals, coupled with a Mallison strike, closed the third quarter with a score of 11-7 in favor of the Hawks.

Mee opened the fourth with a goal just 46 seconds into the quarter and then Molloy scored three straight to put the Lions back within two at 12-10. Mallinson scored for the Hawks, recording their final goal of the evening, while Leonard potted the final goal of the game for Molloy and ended scoring at 13-11.

Senior Matthew Steele (Ipswich, Mass.) was an impressive  19-for-28 on the faceoff and picked up 15 groundballs. Junior Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) picked up six groundballs, while sophomore Jake Stokes (Beverly, Mass.) and senior Sam MacDonald (Hopkinton, Mass.) each grabbed four.

Sophomore goalie James O'Neill (East Walpole, Mass.) made 11 saves for Saint Anselm, who held a 49-40 shot advantage.
