Men’s Lacrosse Toppled at Merrimack, 13-7

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior Ryan Mee (Medway, Mass.) scored a game-high four goals and added an assist for five points, but the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-7 decision to Merrimack College on Wednesday afternoon at Martone- Mejail Field.

The Hawks drop their first in four games and fall to 5-7 overall and 4-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Warriors improve to 9-3, 8-1 NE-10.

Merrimack jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the first quarter, but the Hawks cut the advantage to one thanks to a pair of goals from Mee. Senior Jake Mallinson (Middletown, R.I.) was assisting on the goal at 7:07 of the first, while senior Sam MacDonald (Hopkinton, Mass.) was credited with a helper on Mee's tally at 5:45.

Saint Anselm scored the next three straight goals, to take a 5-3 lead by 7:33 of the second quarter. Junior Andy Budz (Williamstown, Mass.) struck first on an assist from Mee and then Mee tacked on back-to-back strikes for the two-goal lead.

The Warriors then turned the tables on the Hawks, with an eight-goal rally of their own to take the lead at 11-5. Mallinson snapped the rally when he picked up a pass from junior Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) and found the back of the net. The Warriors earned one back to make it 12-6, before MacDonald beat Merrimack goalie Dom Madonna with 2:31 left in the game.

Merrimack potted the final goal of the game bringing the final score to 13-7.

Sophomore goalie James O'Neill (East Walpole, Mass.) made nine saves for the Hawks, while Madonna had 13 stops. The Warriors held a 47-39 edge in shots on goal.
