AMHERST, Mass. – Senior defenseman Drew Bourdeau and junior attackman Patrick Sweeney of the Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team were named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Division II Preseason Team on Thursday.
Sweeney was selected as one of three attackmen on the list while Bourdeau, his team's captain, was one of our defenseman named to the list that also contained representation from NE10 schools Merrimack, Bentley, Assumption and Saint Michael's.
Saint Anselm, ranked in the top-20 nationally by US Lacrosse Magazine and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, concluded the 2017 season with its second-straight NE10 postseason berth and racked up seven wins against league opponents, equaling its best total in team history.
Bourdeau has appeared in 41 games for Saint Anselm, reeling in 92 ground balls and forcing 46 turnovers during that span. A Northeast-10 Conference First Team selection one year ago, Bourdeau was also recognized with NEILA All-New England honors for the second-straight season and was a preseason pick by the NEILA in 2016.
Sweeney, a Second Team All-NE10 selection one year ago, was also recognized as an NEILA All-New England first teamer. Starting all 14 games for Saint Anselm last season, Sweeney racked up 31 goals and added six assists for 37 points (31-6=37) and has averaged more than a point per game in his career. He enters his junior year with 45 career goals in only 28 games played.
The Hawks open their season on Saturday, Mar. 3, welcoming ninth-ranked Seton Hill to the Hilltop for a 12 p.m. showdown at Grappone Stadium.
