AMHERST, Mass. – Saint Anselm College was ranked second in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse, according to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and its annual preseason poll released on Monday.
The Hawks were voted second in NCAA Division II behind Merrimack, who also received three first-place votes. Bentley, Southern New Hampshire and Assumption rounded out the top five while Yale and Wesleyan secured top billing in Division I and Division III, respectively.
Saint Anselm finds itself nationally-ranked in several polls despite not taking the field for an official game in 2018. The Hawks are currently ranked 17th in the US Lacrosse Magazine/Nike Division II Lacrosse Rankings and 18th in the USILA/Nike Division II Coaches' Poll.
The Hawks concluded the 2017 season with its second-straight NE10 postseason berth and racked up seven wins against league opponents, equaling its best total in team history. Most recently, senior defenseman Drew Bourdeau and junior attackman Patrick Sweeney were named to the NEILA's Division II Preseason Team.
The Hawks open their season on Saturday, Mar. 3, welcoming ninth-ranked Seton Hill to the Hilltop for a 12 p.m. showdown at Grappone Stadium.
