Cranmore, N.H. (January 16) -- The Saint men's and women's ski teams competed at the UConn Carnival on Friday and Saturday at Mount Cranmore. The Saint Anselm men placed eighth out of nine teams both days, while the women's team finished fifth out of 10 teams both days and have now finished fifth in three of their last four competitions. Both races of the weekend were slalom competitions.
Freshman Ben Roy (Belgrade, Maine) was the top skier for the men's team both days, placing among the top 25 each day. Roy placed 22nd on day one in a combined time of 1:37.27, followed by a 25th-place finish on Saturday in 1:33.07. Senior co-captain Andrew Ross (Wilbraham, Mass.) was the number two skier over the weekend, placed 37th on day one and 41st on day two. Ross finished in a time of 1:42.72 on Friday, along with a 1:39.23 combined time on Saturday. Also placing among the top 50 during the weekend was sophomore Joe Germaine (North Attleboro, Mass.), who was 48th on day two in a combined time of 1:43.85.
On the women's side, the Hawks now sit in fifth place overall for the season with a pair of fifth-place finishes over the weekend. Sophomore Caitlin Forbes (Hanover, Maine) was the top performer for the Hawks with two top-15 finishes. On day one, Forbes was eighth after the first run and finished 10 overall with a combined time of 1:34.18. Her first run was completed in 45.67 seconds. Classmate Monica Redente (Morris, Conn.) was second each day, placing in the top 25 in both races. She was 17th in a combined time of 1:35.79 on day one, along with 24th place in 1:36.14 on day two. The freshman class completed the top-three trifecta as Tara Byrne (Scarsdale, N.Y.) as she was 29th and 34th each day in times of 1:40.49 and 1:39.64, respectively. Junior Lauren Burgess (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) was 30th and 40th with times of 1:41.52 and 1:43.76, followed by sophomore Lindsay Fleming (Gloucester, Mass.) and freshman Kirsten Huff (Russell, Mass.). Fleming was 35th on day one in a combined time of 1:42.48, while Huff was 25th on day two in 1:36.19.
The Hawks return to action on January 22nd and 23rd as the teams travel to Waterville Valley (N.H.) for the Plymouth State University Carnival.
