Men’s Skiing Earns First, Fourth Place Finishes at Brown University Carnival

GILFORD, N.H. & ANDOVER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's skiing team competed in the Brown University Carnival over the weekend and finished with a fourth place finish on Friday at Gunstock Mountain and a first place finish on Saturday at Blackwater Mountain.

Friday's giant slalom competition yielded a total time of 4:32.77 for the Hawks, which placed them in fourth place out of 12 teams. Benjamin Roy (Belgrade, Maine) led all skiers on the day with a 45.22 on the first run and a 43.81 on the second run for a total time of 1:28.03.

Also finishing in the top 30 of all competitors, Justin Redente (Morris, Conn.) ended the day with a 1:31.40 – for a 15th place overall finish and Eric Brandolini (Georges Mills, N.H.), who wound up in 23rd place overall with a 1:32.34.

Rounding out the field for Saint Anselm on Friday was Thomas Suglia (Andover, Mass.) and Andrew Overton (Woodbury, Conn.) who recorded times of 1:34.29 and 1:34.64, respectively.

In the slalom competition on Saturday at Blackwater Mountain, the men picked up their first 1st place finish of the season with a total team time of 4:34.21.

Roy led the pack for Saint Anselm with a 1:30.52 two-run total. He picked up a 45.48 on his first run and a 45.05 on his second. In second place for Saint Anselm, Redente ended up with a 1:31.55 for a sixth place overall finish.

The final qualifying time for the Hawks came from Brandolini, who clocked a 1:32.13 – 10th place among all competitors.

The final two times from the first place finishers came from Suglia and Joseph Germaine (North Attleboro, Mass.) who registered a 1:37.68 and a 1:41.18, respectively.
