LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's skiing team traveled to the Clarkson University Carnival this past weekend and skied to a fourth place finish on Saturday and a sixth place finish in Sunday in the weekend's pair of giant slalom races.
In Saturday's race, Justin Redente (Morris, Conn.) led all Hawk skiers with a time of 1:40.90 for an 11th overall finish on the day. Also in the top 20 of all skiers for the day, Saint Anselm's Eric Brandolini (Georges Mills, N.H.) registered a 1:42.14 – for a 17th place finish.
The last two qualifying times for the Hawks came from Andrew Overton (Woodbury, Conn.) and Benjamin Roy (Belgrade, Maine), who recorded times of 1:42.86 and 1:44.22, respectively.
Also competing for Saint Anselm in Saturday's competition were Joseph Germaine (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Luke Robbins (Campton, N.H.). Germaine's 53.72 on his first run combined with his 52.56 on the second gave him a two-run total of 1:46.28 – 33rd amongst all competitors. Robbins finished with a total time of 1:58.22.
Sunday, the Hawks ended the day in sixth place. Redente's time of 1:55.72 led all Hawks and placed him seventh of all skiers in the day's competition.
Also in the top 40 amongst all competitors was Thomas Suglia (Andover, Mass.) who finished with a 2:02.18, Overton with a time of 2:04.00 and Griffin Ingenito (Glastonbury, Conn.), who rounded out the Hawk qualifying times with a 2:06.39.
The Hawks return to action Feb. 2-3 as they host a carnival of their own at Crotched Mountain in Bennington, N.H. The two-day event will also be a breast cancer awareness weekend.
