SUN VALLEY, Idaho – The Saint Anselm College men's skiing team competed at the USCSA Nationals at the Sun Valley Resort in Sun Valley, Idaho on March 6 for the giant slalom race and March 8 for the slalom competition. This was the first time that the men's skiing team has participated in the national competition.
For the giant slalom races, the Hawks finished in sixth place out of 19 teams with a total team time of 6:45.89. In the slalom competition, Saint Anselm's skiers led the team to a 14th place finish out of 19 teams with a time of 6:54.55.
On the first day of competition, Benjamin Roy (Belgrade, Maine) led the Hawks with a time of 2:13.10, for a 18th place overall finish amongst all skiers. Just behind Roy was Eric Brandolini (Georges, Mills, N.H.), who clocked a 2:15.65 – 22nd place of all participants.
Rounding out the qualifying times for the Hawks was Justin Redente (Morris, Conn.), who wound up with a total time of 2:17.14, just behind Brandolini in 23rd place.
In the slalom competition, the Hawks were led by Brandolini, who finished with a time of 1:45.66 – 29th place of all skiers. Germaine finished second for the Hawks and 38th overall with a total time of 1:51.80. Thomas Suglia (Andover, Mass.) contributed the final qualifying time for Saint Anselm with a time of 3:17.09.
The USCSA Nationals marked the last event for the Hawks this winter season and was the last event for seniors Germaine and Redente.
