Bennington, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's skiing team raced to sixth place finishes in both the slalom and giant slalom races over the weekend (Feb. 1-2) as the Hawks hosted a carnival of their own at Crotched Mountain.
Three qualifying times came from Saint Anselm's primary team, including the performances of Ben Roy (Belgrade, Maine), Erick Robicsek and Andrew Overton (Woodbury, Conn.). Roy led the Hawks with a time of 1:45.05 – 6th place overall. Robicsek recorded a two-run time of 1:49.57 (14th place) and Overton clocked a time of 1:51.53 (24th overall).
Saint Anselm's secondary team was led by Stephen McLeod (Chelmsford, Mass.), who skied to a time of 1:50.62 for a 19th place overall finish. Also contributing qualifying times for the Hawks in the slalom race were Luke Robbins (Campton, N.H.) and Alvaro Polo (Pozuelo, Madrid). Robbins earned a time of 2:00.24 (38th place), while Polo registered a time of 2:06. 17 (40th place).
On the second day of competition, Roy, Robicsek and McLeod contributed qualifying times with two-run totals of 2:06.17 (10th place), 2:06.53 (12th place) and 2:08.80 (18th place), respectively. Saint Anselm's second group of racers was led by Alex Gowen (Falmouth, Maine), who recorded a time of 2:10.65 (30th place). Nick Papsadora finished the race with a time of 2:17.43 (39th overall), while Robbins punched in the final qualifying time with a 2:21.00 – 42nd place.
The Hawks will return to the slopes Feb. 8-9 as they travel to Bromley Mountain in Peru, Vt.
