MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm Director of Athletics Jim Herlihy announced Monday the hiring of Kevin Ward and Sam Bensley as co-head coaches for the upcoming 2015 men's and women's skiing season.
"We are excited to have Kevin and Sam lead our ski program," Herlihy said. "We think their passion for the sport, commitment to the student-experience and familiarity with the college and our program will serve them well as we embark on the upcoming season."
Bensley, who graduated from Saint Anselm in 2012, was a member of the Hawks' men's skiing program all four years and captained the squad as a junior and senior. Ward said Bensley will take over coaching much of the fundamental aspects of racing, including on-hill techniques and strategies.
Ward, who currently works in Saint Anselm's New Hampshire Institute of Politics, will handle much of the logistical coaching aspects, including practice time and travel plans.
"Sam and I are thrilled to start working with the team on and off the mountain," Ward said. "A strong core of returners and a handful of new skiers on both the men's and women's teams have already committed to working hard toward improvement."
The Hawks will kick off their season on Friday, January 9, as both the men's and women's teams will travel to Okemo Mountain in Ludlow, Vt., for a MacConnell Division race.
