MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team and Le Moyne College played to a scoreless tie in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday morning. The Hawks also honored their five graduating seniors prior to the match.
The draw puts the Hawks at 0-9-2 overall and 0-7-2 in the NE10, while the Dolphins stand at 9-2-1 and 6-2-1 in league play.
Each team traded a pair of shots on net in the first 10 minutes, but the goalkeepers were both up to the task. The Dolphins had a chance with just under nine minutes to play as Salar Faryar sent a drive towards the net. However, senior Jacob Rostkowski (Rockport, Mass.) came up with the stop. Saint Anselm had a chance of their own with under two minutes left in the first half, as a ball was sent into the six-yard box. Freshman Taylor Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) tipped the ball just over the crossbar.
In the second half, the Hawks had a great chance to jump ahead. Junior Nick Heckt (South Windor, Conn.) fired a shot on net that was saved, and his rebounded shot was blocked out of bounds, keeping the game scoreless.
No moment was bigger than during the 76th minute for Rostkowski. He made a leaping save before making another save seconds later to keep the Dolphins off the scoreboard. During the first overtime period, he also made a pair of saves in the first three minutes. Dolphins keeper Josh Mahr made a great save of his own in the 97th minute, keeping the Hawks from scoring. The Dolphins took all five shots in the second overtime period, but to no avail.
Le Moyne had a 31-8 advantage in shots in the game and an 11-2 edge in corner kicks. Rostkowski came up with 12 saves for the home team while Mahr had four saves in net for Le Moyne.
Saint Anselm hits the road on Wednesday, Oct. 17, traveling to Easton, Mass. to take on Stonehill College at 3 p.m.
