SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team fell to a tough American International College squad, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks fall to 5-3 on the year and 1-3 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The Yellow Jackets improve to 5-3 and 3-2 in conference play.
Following a scoreless first half, the Yellow Jackets fired seven shots before Connor Hicks broke the scoreless drought in the 64th minute. American International added to its lead with a tally from Steven Carias with six minutes remaining in the match.
One of the best scoring chances for the Hawks came from senior Nick Heckt (South Windsor, Conn.), who sent a shot to the top right corner of the goal only five minutes into the game - he was denied by Yellow Jackets backstop Ben Taylor.
With 23 minutes left in the first half, senior Jacob Rostkowski (Rockport, Mass.) made a crucial save to keep American International off the scoreboard.
Rostkowski posted four saves in the loss while facing a total of 26 shots and drop to 4-2 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets finished the match with a 27-10 shots advantage. American International finished with a total of 10 corners compared to Hawks' six.
After their contest against the Purple Knights was suspended on Tuesday, the Hawks have rescheduled their matchup with Saint Michael's College on Monday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. in Vermont.
