MANCHESTER, N.H. – Kyle Harris earned his fourth-straight singles victory and Brian Kavanagh and Brian Madden were victorious at No. 3 doubles, but visiting Franklin Pierce University defeated the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team 7-2 in an indoor Northeast-10 Conference match on Tuesday afternoon at the Carr Center.
Franklin Pierce (2-10, 1-3 NE10) claimed two doubles points and five singles victories, including wins at the top-four spots, to defeat Saint Anselm (4-12, 1-6 NE10). The Hawks are back in action at Stonehill on Saturday, April 8 for a noon start.
The Ravens took a 2-1 lead into singles after picking up 8-6 and 8-5 victories at the top-two doubles spots. Kavanagh and Madden moved to 4-3 on the season with an 8-4 win at the third spot for the Hawks' doubles point.
In singles, James Bisazza, Yuval Barak and Andrew Schadt earned wins at the top-three singles spots in the first three matches to finish to provide Franklin Pierce with the five points needed to seal the win. After Barak and Schadt recorded straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, Bisazza held off a late push from Eric Howes, who trailed by a set and 5-2 before rallying to force Bisazza to serve out a 6-2, 6-4 win.
In the final match of the day to finish, Harris edged Olivier Viel 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles to extend his winning streak to four in a row and improve to 9-7 on the season. Marcus Lawrence and Matthew Toombs provided the Ravens with their other two singles victories.
