Regionally-ranked SNHU too much for men's tennis

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's tennis team got a win from Benji Page at No. 6 singles, but regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University proved too much, as the Penmen downed the Hawks 8-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday afternoon at SNHU Tennis Courts.

Ranked No. 5 in the East Region in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, Southern New Hampshire (2-0, 1-0 NE10) backed up a doubles sweep with straight-set wins at the top five singles spots. Page evened his record at 2-2 on the season and won his second-straight match for Saint Anselm (1-3, 0-1 NE10).

In doubles, the Penmen got victories from the pairs of Tiago Fernandes and Ricardo Marreiros, Xavier Aubron and Bas Van Biezen and Jeremy Reichentahl and Ricardo Marreiros at the loss of five games. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Fernandes and Ricardo Marreiros was ranked No. 6 in the region in the Oracle/ITA poll, while the pair were both ranked in the top 10 in singles.

Fernandes, Marreiros, Marreiros, Aubron and Van Biezen also posted straight-set victories in singles for Southern New Hampshire, surrendering just eight games. Page's match with Reichentahl was played as an eight-game pro set with the team result already determined, which Page claimed by an 8-6 margin.
