MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Adam Weinstein rallied for a three-set win at No. 2 singles and classmates Kyle Harris and Benji Page also won their singles matches, but the Saint Anselm College men's tennis team was defeated, 6-3, by Le Moyne College on Saturday at the Carr Center.
Le Moyne (6-4, 3-2 NE10) used a doubles sweep and wins from Xavier Graells and Philip Blythe to win the first five matches to finish and secure the victory. Saint Anselm (1-11, 0-5 NE10) claimed three of the final four singles matches but it was not enough.
The Dolphins posted identical 8-1 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles and an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles to carry a commanding 3-0 lead into singles. Graells and Blythe wrapped up the win for Le Moyne with straight-set victories at No. 3 and No. 1 singles, respectively.
Weinstein dropped the first set of his match against Andres Hernandez but fought back to post a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the second spot in his first three-set match of the season. It was the senior's first-career three-set victory and ended Hernandez's four-match winning streak.
Harris and Page picked up victories in their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles in eight-game pro sets with the team result already decided. They were each victorious by 8-5 margins, with Page's win bringing his team-leading total to eight singles wins on the season.
