MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Julie LeClair (Taunton, Mass.) pounded a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Saint Anselm College softball team took down Saint Michael's College, 8-0, in six innings for game one of the day's doubleheader. The Hawks were backed by two hits apiece from freshman Pattie Turner (Warwick, R.I.) and junior Olivia Story (Middleton, Mass.) in game two, which ended with a score of 7-0.

Saint Anselm rolls to its fourth and fifth straight wins and improve to 8-11 overall and 6-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple Knights drop to 0-18 and 0-8 in league play.

In the first game, the score was deadlocked 0-0 until the sixth inning when the Hawks scored eight runs to come away with the win.

Turner led the inning off with a single through the short stop, earning her first collegiate hit. Gina Treglia (Fairfield, Conn.) followed this up with a bunt-single, before Monique Gauthier (Canton, Mass.) worked a single of her own, loading the bases. Turner scored on a Saint Michael's throwing error and the bases remained loaded for LeClair, who blasted a grand slam over the right field fence for the 5-0 lead.

With one out and a runner on second, Hayley Lombard (Boynton Beach, Fla.) singled through the infield, putting runners on first and third. Nicole Boucher (Woonsocket, R.I.) followed this up with a bases clearing triple to right center, pushing the Hawk lead to seven.

Treglia, in her second at bat of the inning, singled to center and scored Boucher, bringing the game to its final score of 8-0. Tayla Trask (Lincoln, Maine) threw six innings, gave up four hits and struck out seven.

In game two, Saint Anselm jumped on the board in the bottom of the second, putting up three runs on one hit. Lombard's sacrifice fly scored LeClair and Turner doubled to right scoring Boucher and Story.

The Hawks put up two more runs two innings later when Story led the inning off with a single to right center and came around to score thanks to a wild pitch and a passed ball. Turner hit a sac fly to right, which plated Lombard, who reached on a walk.

Saint Anselm scored its final two runs in the sixth, to close scoring at 7-0. Boucher and Story both singled to get on base and scored on a Purple Knight throwing error.

Paige Cormier (Rochester, N.H.) pitched six innings, giving up three hits and striking out seven. Shannon Dalton (Concord, Mass.) closed the game for the Hawks, pitching one inning.

The Hawks will take on Saint Rose this Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for their next Northeast-10 softball matchup.
