MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College softball team and head coach Shawna Bellaud hosted an alumni game on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2013 at the Softball Field on the campus of Saint Anselm College.
A total of 17 former softball players played in the event, which was brought back to campus for the first time since 2005. Alumni from the Class Of '92 up until last year participated in the event, which Bellaud hopes to host annually.
"I was thrilled at the number of alums that came back to the Hilltop to play in last weekend's slow pitch game against the current team," said Bellaud. "I hope to continue this tradition into the future in order to celebrate those connected with Saint Anselm College softball."
Despite the loss of the current team, the 2013-14 Hawks still had a great time taking on the players who came before them. "The game was a fun way to connect the past and present players of Saint Anselm College softball" said senior Monique Gauthier (Canton, Conn.).
"It was really nice to see how close the alumni still are to each other, and how much they still love the game," noted senior Olivia Story (Middleton, Mass.). "I hope my teammates and I show the same spirit after we graduate."
The softball team will be hosting a skills clinic for prospective college student-athletes on Sunday, Oct. 6. This skills clinic, aimed at girls ages 13-18, is broken into the areas of fielding, hitting and pitching. More information on the clinic is available on the softball page at the following link: http://www.saintanselmhawks.com/sports/sball/2012-13/releases/201308298vv37i.
