MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Julie LeClair (Taunton, Mass.) had the lone RBI of the game and junior Tayla Trask (Lincoln, Maine) pitched the complete-game shutout as the Saint Anselm College softball team picked up a 1-0 win over Bentley University on Thursday afternoon as the Hawks celebrated Senior Day.
With the win, the Hawks grab their fourth straight and improve to 24-12 overall, 16-8 NE-10 and 13-5 NE-10 Northeast, while the Falcons drop to 17-17, 11-13 NE-10, 9-9 NE-10 NE.
The game was deadlocked at 0-0 until the bottom of the sixth when senior Nicole Boucher (Wooksocket, R.I.) led off the inning with a double to right field. After stealing third, she scored when LeClair notched a single through the left side. Bentley's lead runner singled to get on base in the seventh, but the Saint Anselm defense stood tall and worked out of the inning.
Trask went the distance for Saint Anselm, throwing seven innings giving up four hits and striking out six. Kelly Ferris scattered five hits over six innings for the Falcons.
Boucher and LeClair were both 2-for-3 – Boucher with a double and a triple. Junior Hannah Byrne (Lynn, Mass.) also chipped in a hit for the Hawks.
The Hawks return to action Friday, April 25 at 3 p.m. when they travel to Stonehill for a doubleheader both Friday and Saturday.
