SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Senior Monique Gauthier (Canton, Conn.) of the Saint Anselm College softball team and sophomore Caitlin Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) of the women's lacrosse squad were named to their respective sport's Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Team, the league office announced recently.
Gauthier, who earned a spot on the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team at the end of the season, earns her eighth NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition. Gauthier led the league in doubles (17) and ranked second in extra-base hits (23), fifth in slugging (.622), ninth in home runs (6) and 11th in runs scored (26). The nursing major put together a line of .328/.398/.622/1.020 in 41 games, while knocking in 17 runs and amassing a .978 fielding percentage – making just one error in 46 chances in centerfield. The captain also helped lead the Hawks to a share of the Northeast Division Regular Season title, as well as 27 victories, which were the most for the program since 2002.
Villareal, who was an NE-10 All-Conference First Teamer and selected to the IWLCA North All-Region Second Team, makes her fourth NE-10Commissioner's Honor Roll. Villareal led the conference in free-position goals (21), ranked sixth in points (70), seventh in goals (53) and 17th in assists (18). Nationally, Villareal placed 34th in goals, 36th in goals per game (2.94), 39th in points, 72nd in assists and 81st in assists per contest (0.91). The business major aided the Hawks in capturing their first NCAA Tournament berth ever, as they finished the season 13-5 to set a new program record for wins.
