MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College softball team earned the No. 2 seed in the East Region of the 2018 NCAA Division II Softball Championship and will host a four-team regional pod from May 10-12, as the NCAA revealed the 64-team field on Monday morning.
In its third NCAA Tournament appearance (2002, 2015), Saint Anselm will host an all-Northeast-10 Conference pod that includes No. 7 seed Merrimack, No. 3 seed Southern New Hampshire and No. 6 seed Pace. The Hawks will face Northeast Divisional foe Merrimack in game one of the regional on Thursday, May 10 at noon.
Game two on Thursday will feature the third-seeded Penmen and the sixth-seeded Setters and will start at 2:30 p.m. Whichever team wins the double-elimination pod will face the winner of the four-team pod hosted by Adelphi in a best-two-of-three super regional. The first-round matchups in the other regional pod are No. 1 seed Adelphi against No. 8 seed Caldwell and No. 4 seed LIU Post against No. 5 Le Moyne. The dates for the super regionals are May 17-18.
Saint Anselm (36-10-1) secured an at-large bid into the field after setting a school record with 36 victories. The Hawks fell to Pace, 2-0, in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Friday at Adelphi. Merrimack (31-14) also received an at-large berth into the regional after falling to the Setters, 3-1, in the NE10 Championship quarterfinals and are in the field for the 15th time in program history.
During the regular season, the Hawks won two of the three head-to-head matchups with the Warriors.
