SALEM, Va. – The Saint Anselm College softball team earned the No. 2 seed in the 2018 NCAA Division II Softball Championship in Salem, Va. and will face No. 7 seed Southern Arkansas in the third game of the opening day of the tournament on Thursday, May 24 at 4 p.m.
Following the completion of the Super Regionals, the remaining eight teams were re-seeded by the NCAA into a bracket with all games to be played at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem. The last team standing in the double-elimination format will be crowned the NCAA Division II national champion on Monday, May 28.
The winner of the game between Saint Anselm (41-10-1) and Southern Arkansas (57-9) will take on the winner of Thursday's final game (6:30 p.m.) pitting No. 3 seed Chico State (55-4) against No. 6 seed Saint Leo (37-16) in a winner's bracket game the next day at 1:30 p.m. The losers of the first-day games will meet in an elimination game on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
In the top half of the bracket, No. 1 seed North Georgia (61-2) and No. 8 seed Southern Indiana (36-23) meet in the first game on Thursday at 11 a.m. That game will be followed by No. 4 seed Angelo State (52-3) and No. 5 seed West Chester (45-13) at 1:30 p.m. The top-seeded Nighthawks (2015) and fourth-seeded Rambelles (2004) are the only teams in the final eight to have won a national championship. Angelo State was also last season's national runner-up.
