The Hawks ranked second in the final poll of the 2018 season, posting a 44-13-1 overall record, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Jill Gagnon. The Hawks finished as national runner-up, falling in the national title series to Southern Indiana.
The defending national champions from Southern Indiana were selected as the preseason favorite, earning all 16 first-place votes and 400 points. Southern Arkansas and North Georgia were also selected above the Hawks.
Saint Anselm set the school record for most wins in a single season, along with multiple other team records during its historic run to the 2018 NCAA Division II Softball Championship. Southern New Hampshire is the only other NE10 program that is receiving votes towards the poll.
Saint Anselm's schedule highlights a rematch of last season's NCAA Division II Championship Final against Southern Indiana during the team's trip to Florida. That game is set for Wednesday, Mar. 6 in Clermont, Fla. The 2019 schedule also features six other teams that made it to at least the NCAA Regional's: Gannon, Lock Haven, LIU Post, Merrimack, Missouri-St. Louis, and Southern New Hampshire.
The Hawks will begin the 2019 season in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for six games. The first game is scheduled for 10 a.m. against Kutztown on Friday, Feb. 15.
