LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Rising senior Morgan Perry (Bethany, Conn.) of the nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College softball team earned her third All-America award in recognition of her strong third-year campaign on the Hilltop. She was named to the Fastpitch News Second Team All-America list.
On May 22, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) selected Perry as a Second Team All-America pick, the first in that organization's history from the Hilltop. Later in the month, Perry drew Third Team All-America distinction from the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association. Last year, Perry was a Fastpitch News Honorable Mention All-America recipient and was a Preseason All-America pick by the organization earlier this year.
Across 34 games in 2019, Perry racked up a 26-6 overall record and a 1.49 earned run average across 206.2 innings of work. Tallying nine or more strikeouts in 10 of her starts on the season, she finished the year with 226 strikeouts to set a single-season team record. She ranked 10th in NCAA Division II with 26 victories and fired nine shutouts, the 11th-most in the country.
She set the single-season team records in innings pitched (206.2) and strikeouts (226), logging the third-lowest batting average against in team annals (.201). She matched her own program record with 26 pitching victories and she fell just one appearance shy of tying her team record of 26, set last season. Her 1.49 earned run average was the eighth-lowest in Hawks history.
Perry opened the season with several strong performances in Florida, limiting Georgian Court, an NCAA Tournament team, to only one hit across seven innings, striking out 13 batters. She later fired a season-high 14 strikeouts against Bentley on Apr. 25.
In the heart of conference play, Perry recorded a 15-0 record across 16 games from Mar. 30 through the opening game of the NE10 postseason on May 3. In that span, she fanned 115 batters and allowed only 12 earned runs and pitched 12 complete games – her earned run average during those 16 games was 0.83 and her teams won 23 of 25 games.
Perry was outstanding in the NE10 Tournament, earning Most Outstanding Player honors to help the Hawks to their first-ever conference championship. Opening the postseason with eight strikeouts in a victory over New Haven, Perry fired 10 innings against Adelphi on May 4, locking down the extra-inning win in the league's title game.
Across 21 innings of play in the NCAA Division II East 1 Regional, Perry yielded only one earned run and struck out 19 batters. She fired two complete game shutouts against cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire to earn the Hawks a spot in the East Super Regionals for the second consecutive season.
As a junior, Perry earned Pitcher of the Year honors from the Northeast-10 Conference and the Division II Conference Commissioner Association (D2CCA). Most recently, Perry earned NFCA All-East Region First Team honors for the second consecutive season.
In 89 career games pitched on the Hilltop, Perry has posted a 1.99 earned run average across 499 innings of work. She has started 81 of those 89 games, the most in team history, and is second all-time in opponent batting average (.233), third in wins (57), third in shutouts (21), fourth in strikeouts (460) and fifth in earned run average (1.99).
She was a key member of the 2018 squad that finished as the national runner-up in NCAA Division II, falling to the eventual champions from Southern Indiana in a three-game series last May. Saint Anselm finished with a 41-10 record in 2019 and Perry's efforts have helped Saint Anselm produce an 85-23-1 (.780) record in the last two years.
