Easton, Mass. (February 27) -- Saint Anselm women's basketball freshman forward Megan Howard (St. Paul, Minn.) has been named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team, as voted by the league's head coaches and announced on Friday morning. Howard was the league's leading rookie point scorer and rebounder throughout the 2008-2009 season.
Howard, a seven-time Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week, finished the season with a league-best 18 double-doubles and is the only player in the Northeast-10 to average a double-double this year. In addition, she is one of only seven players in the entire Northeast region to average a double-double this season. She finished the season averaging 15.6 points per game, ranking seventh in the Northeast-10, along with a league-best 10.7 rebounds per game.
Howard's scoring average is 20th on the Saint Anselm all-time single-season list, while her 10.7 boards per game is eighth all-time. Her 288 total rebounds is the seventh-highest single-season total in school history. In addition to those totals, Howard was 173-for-390 from the field this season. Her 173 field goals made is 10th on the Saint Anselm single-season list, while the 390 attempts is ninth on that list.
She finished the season with seven 20+ point games, including a season-best 31-point effort vs. Merrimack on January 14, 2009. That performance was the 13th-highest single-game scoring output in Saint Anselm history.
Howard also pulled down 19 rebounds at New Haven on November 25, 2008, the ninth-best showing in the history of the program. In that game, Howard had a double-double after just six minutes of play.
