Women's basketball picked second in Northeast Division

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team enters the upcoming 2018-19 season ranked second in the Northeast-10 Conference's Northeast Division, according to the recently-released Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Saint Anselm earned 83 points, ranked second in the Northeast Division behind Bentley who picked up 14 first-place votes and 112 points. Trailing the Hawks is Stonehill, Southern New Hampshire and Merrimack. Adelphi topped the Southwest Division poll with 82 points and five first-place votes, followed by Le Moyne, Southern Connecticut State and Pace.

The Hawks, piloted by second-year Head Coach Corey Boilard, registered a 17-12 overall record last season and made their fourth NE10 postseason appearance in the last five seasons. The team graduated only two seniors and welcomed three newcomers to the fold for the 2018-19 campaign.

Despite losing the two seniors that ranked in the top-three on the team in points per game, the Hawks return First Team All-NE10 pick Shannon Ryan (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) who would go on to earn Daktronics All-East Region honors following the season.

She averaged 18.3 points per game in 2017-18, ranking second in the league while her 10.9 rebounds per game was tops in the NE10. On a national scale, she ranked fifth in NCAA Division II in overall rebounding (317) and 11th in field goals made (221).

Saint Anselm hosts Dominican (N.Y.) on Friday, Nov. 9 to open its 43rd varsity campaign.
