Hawks Fall to Pilgrims 3-1

Manchester, N.H. (December 5)-The Saint Anselm women's ice hockey team fell to the Pilgrims of New England College 3-1 Friday afternoon at Sullivan Arena in ECAC East action. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-3-1 overall and 5-3-0 in league play, while the victory improves the Pilgrims to 4-5-0 overall and 4-3-0 in ECAC games.

The first period was kept scoreless by Pilgrim netminder Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) with 10 saves in the period, while Hawk goalie Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) set aside six shots to keep it nodded at zero going into the second period.

The Hawks started the scoring in the second period, when senior captain Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.) netted her second goal of the year on assists from Molly Corl (Danvers, Mass.) and Bianca DeSantis (Georgetown, Mass.) to make it 1-0 Saint Anselm.

After that it was all Pilgrims, as Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) scored the equalizer less than two minutes later, redirecting a shot by teammate Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.).

In the third period, Pilgrims forward Samantha Phillips (Scottsdale, Ariz.) beat Zapppen off a pass from Danielle Taylor (Bridgewater, Mass.) to give New England College the lead.

The Hawks pulled Zappen with 1:49 left in the third period for the extra attacker, but Phillips added an empty netter for the 3-1 final.

White finished the game with 36 saves and giving up just one goal, while Zappen finished with 14 saves on 16 shots faced.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow, December 6th, as they will travel to New England College for a rematch of today's game starting at 1 p.m.
