WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman forward Kaitlin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) tallied her first career goal Friday night, but the Saint Anselm women's hockey team dropped its first game of the season at Holy Cross, 3-1.
Saint Anselm's 1-0 lead would last through the midpoint of the second stanza when the Crusaders' Nicole Giannino scored her fourth goal of the season at the 10:16 mark.
Holy Cross tacked on two scores in the third period—including the game-winner just 29 seconds after the second intermission—to win the battle of the unbeaten Friday night. The Crusaders improved to 4-0 and 2-0 in ECAC East action, while Saint Anselm fell to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Sophomore goaltender Hannah Synnott (Montclair, N.J.) lost the first game in her career, falling to 1-1 on the season while securing 21 saves.
The Hawks will need a short memory, as they continue their road swing to Southern Maine for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Huskies.
