MANCHESTER, N.H. – Four different players scored a goal and eight players registered at least one point as Saint Anselm College defeated Colby College, 4-0, on Tuesday night in non-conference women's ice hockey action at the Sullivan Arena.
The Hawks wrap up the fall semester at 7-1 overall and return to action in the New Year on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Trinity College at 4:00 p.m. Colby falls to 2-4-1 overall and will take on Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
Alison Butler (Danvers, Mass.) scored a goal – the eventual game-winner - and added an assist to lead the Hawks. Caley Mueller (Littleton, Colo.), Alex Kazmer (Crystal Lake, Ill.), and Kaitlyn Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) added the other goals for Saint Anselm. Victoria Shea (Middleton, Mass.) picked up a pair of assists on the night, with Sara McNamara (Danbury, Conn.), Alex Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.), Alison Quinn (Canton, Mass.), and Halle Kent (Lake Placid, N.Y.) also recording assists.
Hannah Synott (Montclair, N.J.) improved to 6-0-0 this season while making 16 saves on the night. Colby's Angelica Crites suffered the setback while making 43 saves on 47 shots faced.
Butler opened up the scoring a mere 1:13 into the game as the Hawks won a face-off in the neutral zone. The puck caromed off the foot of Victoria Shea and onto the stick of Butler, who took possession down the left wing. The junior wound up and slipped a wrister top shelf past Crites to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Caley Mueller extended the lead to 2-0 as she jammed home a loose puck on goal line. Shea played a puck deep into the Colby zone that Alison Butler chased down. Butler played a nifty back-handed pass to Mueller who buried the shot to put the Hawks on top by two.
Saint Anselm went up 3-0 on Alex Kazmer's fourth goal of the season as she cleaned up the rebounds of Alex Starzyk and Alison Quinn. Kaitlyn Spillane rounded out the scoring less than three minutes later as she tipped home a shot that was taken by Halle Kent and also tipped by Sara McNamara.
