SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Alex Starzyk tallied two goals and an assist to lead the Saint Anselm College women's hockey team to its third-straight victory via a 4-0 win at Saint Michael's on Saturday afternoon at Cairns Arena in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) play.
Starzyk scored a pair of power-play goals for Saint Anselm (6-1-0, 5-1-0 NEHC) and Caley Mueller and Paige Gorecki also found the back of the net on the afternoon. The victory kept the Hawks perfect all-time against Saint Michael's (0-8-0, 0-6-0 NEHC) as Saint Anselm now has won all 29 meetings in the series.
For the second day in a row, the Hawks scored three times in the opening period, beginning with Mueller's second of the year at 3:33 of the first. The sophomore grabbed her second goal of the season by finishing off a rebound after back-to-back saves by Tina Frasca.
Later in the period, Saint Anselm scored twice in 58 seconds to establish the three-goal lead after 20 minutes. At 13:26, Alison Butler found Starzyk on the right side and Staryzk fired a low shot off the left post and in for her 50th-career goal. The 50 goals make Starzyk one of just five players in program history to hit that milestone.
Maura Kieft then set up Gorecki's goal from behind the net, finding Gorecki in the slot for the Hawks' third. For the period, Saint Anselm had 16 shots on goal without allowing Saint Michael's to get a single effort on net.
Starzyk capped the scoring at 17:14 of the third, taking a pass from behind the goal line from Alison Quinn, carrying the puck to the lower part of the right circle and firing it inside the left post. Quinn's assist was her second of the game, while Ashley Moran and Amanda Conger each recorded assists in the first period.
Maddie Scavotto picked up her fifth shutout in seven-career starts but only had to make six saves in the game, as Saint Anselm outshot Saint Michael's 45-6. Frasca made 41 saves in a losing effort for the Purple Knights.
Saint Anselm is back at it on Tuesday, Nov. 22 with a 6 p.m. puck drop at Plymouth State.
