LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Senior Taylor Cudhea and sophomore Katherine Quinn both placed in the top 15 both days to highlight the Saint Anselm College skiing team's performances at Whiteface Mountain last weekend.
Cudhea and Quinn helped the women place fourth of nine teams on both days, while the men played sixth on Saturday and eighth on Sunday. The races on both days were giant slaloms.
On Saturday, five Hawks finished in the top 20 on the women's side. Cudhea was the top finisher, placing 12th in 2:17.99. Following her were Quinn in 13th (2:18.35), senior Leika Scott in 16th (2:19.78), freshman Becca Stephens in 17th (2:19.82) and freshman Emilie Brush in 18th (2:19.93).
On the men's side, sophomore Luke Heald and senior Benji Page each posted top-12 times on Saturday. Heald placed ninth in the field with a time of 2:05.09, while Page was just three-hundredths of a second behind in 11th.
The next day, Cudhea, Quinn and Scott all placed in the top 20 for the second-straight race to help the Hawks replicate their fourth-place finish. The trio were separated by just nine-hundredths of a second, placing 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively, led by Cudhea's time of 2:25.76.
Heald was the lone Saint Anselm competitor to finish both runs for the men on Sunday, coming in 16th with a time of 2:16.99.
Saint Anselm returns to New York on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 3-4 when it travels to West Mountain in Queensbury. Saturday's giant slalom will be followed by a slalom race on Sunday.
