Ski teams post six top-15 finishes in two-race day at West Mountain

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's and women's skiing teams competed in a pair of slalom races on Saturday at West Mountain, with Katherine Quinn and Taylor Cudhea each posting top-15 finishes in both races.

In addition to the regularly-scheduled slalom race, the Hawks also made up a rescheduled race from Jan. 12 on Saturday night. The men's team placed fourth in the first race of the day before finishing fifth in the night race. The women took fourth in both races.

In the first race of the day, the women placed three in the top 15 and five in the top 25, while the men landed three of the top-25 individuals. Quinn recorded her best finish of the season in 10th place in 2:02.94, followed closely by senior Leika Scott in 11th (2:03.51). Cudhea was also in the top 15 with a time of 2:04.99, while freshmen Meredyth Curtis (19th, 2:12.99) and Emilie Brush (25th, 2:22.08) recorded top-25 times.

Sophomore Luke Heald paced the men with his third-straight top-20 finish by placing 13th in 1:36.07. Classmate Joe Wirth (1:42.40) and senior Alex Conrad (1:44.40) completed their runs two seconds apart in 20th and 24th, respectively, while Benji Page was 30th (1:56.90).

In the night race, Cudhea recorded a season-best eighth-place showing with a time of 1:28.08. Quinn made it four consecutive top-15 performances by placing 14th (1:30.84). Brush improved eight spots from earlier in the day to come in 17th (1:32.47), while Scott (24th, 1:36.77) and Curtis (25th, 1:37.09) also posted top-25 times.

Page compiled his third top-10 result of the season in the evening's make-up race, coming in 10th in 1:17.56. Heald's time of 1:25.64 was good for 24th and Conrad's time of 1:27.17 put him 27th in the field.

The Hawks are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 4 at West Mountain for a giant slalom to finish the weekend.
