GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team was handed a 3-0 loss by the host Panthers from Adelphi University on Saturday.
Saint Anselm sees a two-game winning streak disappear with the result, dropping to 2-3 on the young season and to 2-1 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Adelphi remains without a loss through four matches on the year, improving to 2-0 against league foes.
Despite only a small advantage in shots taken (17-to-13), Adelphi made their chances count, scoring on three out of 12 shots on goal while the Hawks had all seven shots on frame turned aside. Amanda Rainey scored only 7:48 into the contest before Kerianne Scorce potted two goals, her first coming in the 56th minute and her last coming with 18:15 left in regulation time.
Saint Anselm netminder Payton Wildrick (Dartmouth, Mass.) yielded three goals in the loss, her first across the last three games for the Hawks. The tandem of Sarah Hofmeier and Krista Aliscio made six saves, with one Hawks shot stopped by a defender on the goal line.
The Hawks head to Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, Sept. 18, taking on the Owls under the lights at 7 p.m.
