MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Jess Perkins (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and senior April Regan (Berlin, Conn.) each won a pair of matches to pace the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team as it posted a 7-2 victory against Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday afternoon at the Saint Anselm Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Hawks capture their second straight match to even their record at 2-2 on the season and in Northeast-10 play, while the Ravens fall to 0-2, 0-2 NE-10.
Perkins swept past Kirby Melbourne, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles and then teamed with classmate Ashley Sulkin (Ipswich, Mass.) to take down Melbourne and Leslie Rodgers, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles.
Regan, meanwhile, was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Christine Boulanger at No. 6 singles and combined with sophomore Katie Roberts (So. Windsor, Conn.) to ground Boulanger and Maria Quagliano, 8-1, in the No. 3 doubles spot.
Freshman Meghan Golden (Scituate, Mass.) defeated Sonia Rodrigues, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 2 singles. Junior Leah Fitzgerald (Bedford, N.H.) earned a win in her No. 4 singles match against Rogers, 6-1, 6-3, while junior Courtney Russell (No. Reading, Mass.), toppled Quagliano, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.
The Hawks return to action Thursday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. when they play host to Southern New Hampshire University in their fifth match in nine days.
