COLCHESTER, Vt. – Freshman Jess Perkins (Shrewsbury, Mass.) continued her hot play with her fourth singles win in a row, but the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat against Saint Michael's College on Wednesday afternoon at the Saint Michael's Tennis Courts.
The Hawks fall to 3-3 on the season and in Northeast-10 play, while the Purple Knights improve to 4-2, 4-2.
Perkins took down Erica Bundrick at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-0, to extend her winning streak.
The match was also a reunion of sisters as freshman Ashley Sulkin (Ipswich, Mass.) and her sister Alexandra, a junior at Saint Michael's, squared off on opposite sides. The two did not directly meet as Ashley fell to Caroline Martin, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles and Alexandra defeated junior Leah Fitzgerald (Bedford, N.H.), 8-3, in No. 5 singles.
The Hawks return to action Thursday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. when they play host to Southern New Hampshire University.
