Women’s Tennis Opens Weekend with 7-2 Win at Saint Rose

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Freshman Jess Perkins (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and senior Kate Martin (Hudson, N.H.) each won a pair of matches to lead the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team to a 7-2 victory against the College of Saint Rose on Saturday evening at SPORTIME.

The Hawks even their record at 4-4 on the season and in Northeast-10 play, while the Golden Knights dip to 2-9, 1-8 NE-10.

Perkins was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Isabela Cubillos at No. 1 singles and also beat both Cubillos and Paige Southwick, 8-5, in No. 1 doubles, along with classmate Ashley Sulkin (Ipswich, Mass.).

Martin, meanwhile, took care of Megan Stacklum, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 2 singles and teamed with freshman Meghan Golden (Scituate, Mass.) for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles against Stacklum and KeriAnn Mahoney.

Junior Kathryn Rindo (Lowell, Mass.) defeated Mahoney, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 4 singles, while junior Courtney Russell (No. Reading, Mass.) brought down Alanna Bergmann, 8-4 in No. 5 singles.

In No. 3 doubles, sophomore Katie Roberts (So. Windsor, Conn.) and senior April Regan (Berlin, Conn.) combined for an 8-4 victory against Bergmann and Maria Malafronte.

The Hawks return to action Sunday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. when they take on Le Moyne College. The next home match for the Hawks is Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. when they play host to Stonehill College.
