NEW LONDON, N.H. – Jess Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes provided all three points as the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team dropped its spring finale 6-3 to Colby-Sawyer on the road on Sunday afternoon at Kelsey Courts.
Perkins and Hughes were victorious at No. 1 and No. 3 singles for Saint Anselm (7-10) after teaming for a victory at No. 1 doubles. Evelyn Miller and Aislinn O'Connor each picked up two wins on the day for Colby-Sawyer (15-5).
After playing most of the season at No. 2 doubles, Perkins and Hughes moved up to the top spot and earned their 13th victory of the season by downing Ashley Woodside and Maddy Gemerek by an 8-4 scoreline. The duo finished the season 13-3 overall.
The pairs of Miller and O'Connor and Hilary Boucher and Michelle Lopes gave the Chargers a 2-1 advantage going into singles with 8-2 and 8-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
Perkins finished off an 18-3 season atop the singles lineup for the Hawks with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Woodside. Fourteen of the junior's eighteen wins came at the loss of two games or fewer. Through three seasons on the Hilltop, Perkins has a career record of 45-8.
Hughes completed her freshman season with a win by topping Gemerek 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. The freshman's 11 victories this season ranked second on the team, trailing only Perkins' total of 18, and she joined her doubles parter as the only Saint Anselm freshmen in the last 14 seasons to post double-digit singles wins in a season.
In the closest of the six singles matches, Tess Malerbi fell 6-4, 7-5 to Miller at the second spot. O'Connor, Lauren Blanchard and Christine Hill were straight-set victors for Colby-Sawyer in the bottom half of the singles lineup.
Saint Anselm finished its season with a 7-10 roster and is slated to return all 10 players next season.
