MANCHESTER, N.H. – Playing shorthanded against one of the top teams in the East Region, the Saint Anslem College women's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Concordia (N.Y.) College on Sunday.
With only five players available, Saint Anselm (6-14) had to default a pair of matches to Concordia (15-4), the third-ranked team in the most recent Oracle/ITA East Region Rankings. The Clippers won all five singles matches in straight sets after dropping five games in two doubles victories. The match was played under Division I rules and scoring.
Concordia got a 6-1 victory from Siri Victorsson and Angelica Karlsson at No. 1 doubles, as the pair topped Kaitlin Hughes and Maikah Bulpitt. Tadi Mrewa and Josefina Torres edged Kayla Hodas and Lexi Stathis, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Hodas managed four games in a 6-1, 6-3 defeat to Franziska Putschbach at No. 4 singles, but the Clippers lost just five games in the other four singles matches.
Saint Anselm concludes its spring schedule at Regis (Mass.) on Tuesday, Apr. 17 at 3 p.m.
