WESTON, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team led 2-1 after doubles but host Regis (Mass.) College rallied with singles victories at the top-four spots to defeat the Hawks, 5-4, in their final match of the season on Tuesday at Regis Tennis Center.
All three doubles matches were decided by two games or fewer, but Saint Anselm (6-15) came away with victories in two of the three to enter singles with the lead. Regis (10-6), however, recorded straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles and got the decisive three-set victory from Amy DiPace at No. 4 singles to claim the 5-4 victory.
Freshmen Maikah Bulpitt and Dominique Bolduc put the first point on the board with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles before the Pride's duo of Katasha Jarvis and Ariana McCormack posted a win by the same margin at No. 1 doubles. Juniors Eleni Petromelis and Kayla Hodas outlasted Carly Donovan and Gracie Jarest in a tiebreak, 8-6, at third doubles to give the Hawks the doubles advantage.
Donovan, Jarvis and McCormack won their matches at the top-three singles spots to put Regis ahead, 4-2. Petromelis improved to 2-0 in singles play this season and closed the gap to 4-3 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jarest at No. 6 singles only for DiPace to secure the win for the hosts with a 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-8 triumph at fourth singles. Bolduc was victorious in the final match to finish, 7-5, 6-2, at fifth singles to make the final margin 5-4.
Saint Anselm finishes its season at 6-15 overall.
