Women's tennis earns first win of the season

PLYMOUTH, N.H.– The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season, defeating Plymouth State on Monday, 8-1.

The Hawks swept in the doubles category, with the first win for No. 1 doubles coming from pair Tess Malerbi (Scituate, Mass.) and Lexi Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.), beating Sage Winter and Maggie McCarthy 8-3. 

Sophomore Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) won No. 2 doubles, beating out their Plymouth State counterparts 8-3. 

In No. 3 doubles, seniors Kayla Hodas (Peabody, Mass.) and Eleni Petromelis (Peabody, Mass.) earned the 8-4 win against Jenna Sundquist and Kerstin Venincasa

Malerbi was No. 1 in the singles round, taking the win against Maggie McCarthy 6-1, 6-3. Senior Lexi Stathis won the third sinlges round against Irene Kigugu 6-2, 6-3. Emily Jacy earned a 6-1, 6-2 singles win against Plymouth's Megan Wheeler.

Kayla Hodas (Peabody, Mass.) came back from a 6-1 deficit in her first set to defeat Jenna Sundquist 7-5, 10-7. Eleni Petromelis (Peabody, Mass.) came back from a 2-6 set-back in the first set to defeat Kerstin Venincasa 6-2, 10-4.

The Hawks are back in action on Friday Sept. 21 at 3:30 as they take on the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.
