Women's tennis comes from behind in 4-3 road win

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team eked out a 4-3 victory over the host Purple Knights from Saint Michael's College on Friday at the Tarrant Recreation Center.

Saint Anselm improves to 2-3 on the season while the Purple Knights even their record at 3-3 with the loss. The Hawks are now 1-1 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents and will host Adelphi on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m.

The Hawks charged ahead with a No. 1 doubles victory by senior captain Tess Malerbi (Scituate, Mass.) and junior Kaitlin Hughes (Rockland, Mass.), 7-5. Despite a loss at No. 2 doubles, the tandem of sophomore Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) and senior Kayla Hodas (Peabody, Mass.) locked down a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles to propel the visitors into a 1-0 match lead.

Down by a 3-2 lead following the first four singles matches, the Hawks rallied for the overall match victory as Bulpitt posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles before Hodas cashed in with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

Freshman Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) notched a three-set victory over her opponent at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, to tie the match at 2-2.
