MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 loss to nationally-ranked Stonehill on Saturday.
The Hawks fall to 2-7 overall on the season and to 1-5 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Stonehill, ranked 42nd in NCAA Division II in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, improves to 5-0 overall and against league foes.
Stonehill cruised through doubles play, losing only one game at No. 2 doubles as the tandem of senior Lexi Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and freshman Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) fell by a 6-1 score.
Senior Kayla Hodas (Peabody, Mass.) was able to secure the win at No. 6 singles, battling back from a first set loss to Stonehill's Anastasiya Shyianok to capture the next two sets via scores of 7-5 and 10-7, respectively. Hodas' overall record at No. 6 singles stands at 3-2 on the season, having won her last two matches.
The Hawks host Franklin Pierce on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. in a conference fixture.
