Hughes picks up career win No. 25, as women’s tennis downs AIC, 6-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Kaitlin Hughes (Rockland, Mass.) of the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team picked up her 25th career victory at No. 2 singles in her team's 6-1 win at American International College on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The win improves the Hawks to 4-9 overall and 3-6 in conference play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-11 and 0-10 in league play.

Hughes won the No. 2 singles flight by a score of 6-2, 6-4. She was also victorious at the top doubles match, along with senior Tess Malerbi (Scituate, Mass.), defeating American International, 7-5.

Freshman Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) sophomore Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.), senior Kayla Hodas (Rockland, Mass.) and classmate Eleni Petromelis (Peabody, Mass.) all swept their singles matches.

The Yellow Jackets' lone win came at No. 1 singles.

Saint Anselm heads to Waltham, Mass. on Friday, Oct. 12 to take on Bentley University in NE10 action for a 3 p.m. tilt.
