ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team defeated the Mules from Muhlenberg College, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Hawks improve to 6-11 on the year while the Mules fall to 1-5. Saint Anselm continues its Florida trip on Thursday, Mar. 7 at 8 a.m. against Cornerstone University.
Saint Anselm swept all three doubles matches and won five of the six singles matches.
Senior Tess Malerbi (Scituate, Mass.) notched a thrilling three-set victory at No. 2 singles against Caroline Armknecht. She dropped the first set before taking the second set by a score of 6-4. Malerbi battled to a third-set victory by a score of 10-7.
In the top singles flight, junior Kaitlin Hughes (Rockland, Mass.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win while sophomore Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Senior Kayla Hodas (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) notched victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
At No. 2 doubles, Malerbi and senior Eleni Petromelis (Peabody, Mass.) earned a clean sweep victory while freshman Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Hughes won 6-4 in the second doubles flight. Bulpitt and Bolduc defeated Rose Glantz and Ji-in Friess at No. 3 doubles by a 6-1 margin.
