Women's tennis edged by NCAA Division I Holy Cross, 4-3

WORCESTER, Mass. – Taking on the College of the Holy Cross, an NCAA Division I opponent, the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team was on the losing end of a 4-3 decision on Friday.

The Hawks fall to 1-3 overall on the season and will host Northeast-10 Conference opponent Saint Michael's College on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The tandem of junior Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) secured a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, but Holy Cross used 6-2 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to capture a 1-0 match lead heading into singles play.

After Holy Cross captured wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, Kapothanasis kept the Hawks in the match with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 singles flight. After a 6-4, 6-1 loss in her collegiate debut on Sept. 8, she has racked up three consecutive victories at No. 3 singles, losing only four games in the process.

Sophomore Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) added another point for the Hawks at No. 2 singles, claiming the 6-4, 6-4 victory, with Bulpitt going the distance for a 7-5, 1-6, 10-4 win at No. 4 singles.
