MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior setter Jewel Hays of the Saint Anselm College volleyball team was tabbed the Northeast-10 Conference Setter of the Week for her role in a 3-0 week for the Hawks last week, as announced on Tuesday.
Hays recorded 109 assists (9.91 per set) for Saint Anselm to help guide the Hawks to wins over Southern New Hampshire, Merrimack and Southern Connecticut State last week. She had 40 digs to go with 11 assists in a five-set win at SNHU on Tuesday, 27 assists in a sweep at Merrimack on Thursday and 42 assists and six digs in just three sets against Southern Connecticut State on Saturday.
From the setter spot, Hays helped Saint Anselm hit .388 at Merrimack and .319 against Southern Connecticut State as a team. The junior is just 13 assists shy of passing Robin Hinchey for fourth all-time at Saint Anselm in assists with 2,064 for her career through two-plus seasons and currently boasts the top assists-per-set mark (8.86) in program history.
The award marked the second time in Hays' career that she has been named the NE10 Setter of the Week, previously receiving the honor on Oct. 10, 2016.
Winners of seven-straight matches, the Hawks host Bentley tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 26) at 7 p.m. at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
