MANCHESTER, N.H.– Fresh off notching her 3,000th assist on Friday evening, senior Jewel Hays (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) posted a career-high 63 assists against Pace and posted a pair of double-doubles on Saturday to lead the Hawks to a pair of nonconference victories in Stoutenburgh Gym.
In the day's opening match the Hawks stormed out to the early lead and cruised to the 25-17 victory. Pace answered with a 25-22 second set win to tie the match at 1-1. The Hawks awakened again in the third and easily cruised to the third set win 25-15 to go in front 2-1.
The Setters clawed their way to a decisive fifth set thanks to a 25-22 win in the fourth set but it was the Hawks who were able to come out on top in the back-and-forth battle 15-13.
Catie McCarthy (Broad Run, Va.) led the way with 21 kills and a 18 digs while Hays tacked on a team-high 19 digs to go with her career-best 63 assists. Hays' 63 assists ranks second-best in program history. Sarah Lowery (Chicago, Ill.) added 18 kills and Madison Sollows (West Barnstable, Mass.) added 15 kills while Nique D'Ancona (Larkspur, Calif.) matched Hays' 19 digs.
In the final match of the day for the Hawks, Saint Anselm used a balanced attack to cruise to the straight set victory over the Mavericks of Mercy College, 3-0.
McCarthy again led the way for the Hawks, this time with nine kills while Elise Jolly (Merrimack, N.H.) tacked on seven. Hays had a team-best 29 assists and 10 digs.
Saint Anselm (7-4) continues their longest home stand of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 12 hosting Southern New Hampshire University in a 7 p.m. Northeast 10 and Queen City Cup tilt in Stoutenburgh Gym.
