Cross country reveals 2018 meet schedule

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's and women's cross country teams have announced their 2018 schedule of meets. The Hawks harriers are slated to race in six events this season. Start times for each meet will be updated on the Saint Anselm Athletics website once they are set.

"We are looking forward to a very competitive schedule," said Head Coach Brian Stankiewicz, a 2017 graduate of Saint Anselm and a four-year member of the cross country program. "We compete in a very tough conference with so many great teams. Each week will prepare us for the conference and regional championships."

The Hawks open their year by hosting the annual Shacklette Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 1. Named for Phillip Shacklette, the Hall of Fame cross country coach at Saint Anselm, the annual race draws the region's top talent to the Hilltop. After a week layoff, the Hawks will head to South Bend, Ind. for the National Catholic Invitational.

The month of October features only two races, the first of which will be run on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the NEICAAA New England Championship in Boston's Franklin Park. A layoff of 20 days will end with the Friday, Oct. 26 running of the Bruce Kirsh Cup at nearby Hopkinton Fairgrounds.

November will host the annual Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Hopkinton Fairgrounds on Sunday, Nov. 4 before the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Garden City, N.Y.

At the Northeast-10 Conference Championship this past season, the men's team posted a 12th-place finish while the women's squad finished ninth – the finishes were the highest for each team since the 2010 season. The men's team returned to the NCAA Division II East Region Cross Country Championship in 2017 after a year's hiatus and did not lose any seniors to graduation this past season.

In late July, Saint Anselm announced the addition of 14 student-athletes to the Class of 2022 to support last season's team. The women's team will welcome 12 newcomers to the fold in 2018.
