Gendron leads women's cross country at NEICAAA Championship

BOSTON – The Saint Anselm College women's cross country team was in action on Saturday at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Cross Country Championship at Franklin Park in Boston.


The Hawks finished 23rd out of 24 teams across NCAA Divisions I, II and III.

Senior Liberty Gendron (Goffstown, N.H.) led all Saint Anselm entrants in the race, posting a 5K time of 19:51.20 to place 99th out of 168 runners. The time was a personal best for Gendron on a 5K course across her four-year career.

Freshman Samantha Matthews (Groveland, Mass.) crossed the line in 20:23.30, a season-low 5K time set only three races into her collegiate career. Fellow first-year Holly O'Leary (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a time of 20:49.97 while classmate Dominique Engle (Rutland, Mass.) registered a time of 20:52.34.

Freshman Caitlyn Callinan (Litchfield, N.H.) completed the course in 21:07.53 with classmate Leanne Guimond (Barnstable, Mass.) adding a time of 21:15.46. Senior Anna Barrell (Marblehead, Mass.) rounded out the roster of Hawks competing in the varsity race with a time of 21:27.13.

Freshman Sarah Mullen (Seekonk, Mass.) had a sub-20 minute time in the sub-varsity race (19:52.19), placing 41st out of 147 runners. She led 12 additional Saint Anselm runners in the race.
