NEW ORLEANS – The Saint Anselm College women's cross country team was ranked fourth in the East Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday.
The Hawks trail only Roberts Wesleyan, Stonehill and Merrimack. Saint Anselm finds itself listed ahead of fellow Northeast-10 Conference programs Southern New Hampshire, Le Moyne, Adelphi and Assumption.
Last time out, the Hawks recorded a strong team finish in a crowded field at the Bruce Kirsh Cup in Hopkinton, N.H. Saint Anselm placed third, finishing behind only Stonehill and Merrimack, while edging strong programs Southern New Hampshire and Assumption to earn placement on the regional rankings.
Senior Liberty Gendron (Goffstown, N.H.) led the Hawks with a 17th-place time of 19:29, setting a personal record time on a 5K course for the second-consecutive race. Junior Maquila Dimastrantonio (Shapleigh, Maine), competing in only her second race of the season, placed 20th with a time of 19:34.9, a season and career-low figure.
The No. 4 ranking matches the program's highest since at least 2009 and Tuesday's announcement marks the 27th time the women's program has received placement in the rankings since that year.
